Intern Program

Specifics of the program

Intern Program

There will be four integral aspects to the program

DIAKONIA

The intern will involve him/herself in the ongoing work of the Mission on a daily basis and gradually undertake a leadership role in specific areas of the work of the Mission. To this end the intern must be flexible and able to adjust to the everyday demands of mission work. A key element of this work is the ability to respond to the needs of the persons whom the Mission serves.

STUDY

The study element of the internship will include formal lectures on the Orthodox theology and spirituality of mission to the poor and marginalized. There will also be courses on the practical care of the members of the Mission from appropriate professionals and also other practical aspects of members needs such as housing, health care, drug awareness etc.

LITURGY

The Mission's spiritual life includes daily services that are part of the life of the Mission and also the liturgical life of the parish of St Silouan that worships regularly in the Mission's chapel. In addition to the services at the Mission the intern will be required to participate in the study courses that form a regular part of the life of the Mission. Interns should open to learning that even liturgical worship has a mission character.

COMMUNITY

The interns will live together in their own community house. They will work in the community that exists in the Mission and pray in the worshipping community of both the Mission and the St Silouan parish. They will have their own community of learning and participate in the learning community of the parish and the Mission.
